Bounce Random Garden

Created by michele   -   Topic Group: Models Systems and Randomness   -   Created: 28-07-04   -   Modified: 05-04-05

What does it do?

Once it is filled with some pures, numbers, or texts, and is activated, this special kind of Random Garden extracts an element from its contents whenever it is touched by another ToonTalk object.

How do I use it?

Fill the garden with pictures, numbers or texts by dropping them on it. Activate the garden by pointing it and hitting the space bar, then let a  toontalk object touch  it.; you can also simply hold a number or a text in your hand and pass it over the garden.

How does it work?

As standard Random Gardens, it extract randomly an object from its contents, but it extract when touched.

What can I use it for?

It can be used as a random generator itself, but it can be used also to build more complex rundom generators by combining it with other kinds of objects, like for instance the ToonTalk Shaker and the Random Jump. For  some other examples see Michele's work in progress report.

There are 2 versions of the tool, a first one which keeps extracting items during the whole period of time in which it is being touched, in other words  when it is touched it extracts a stream of items:

The second version extracts items only once for each time that it is touched, in other words, it extracts only one item every time it is touched:

If you turn on the garden before adding anything to it then Marty reports a division by zero.

And why is the nest in a box in a box rather than just in a box?

The readme comment had many typos. An updated version follows:
