Plotting graphs in Excel

This tutorial shows how to plot data in Excel, save the graph as an image, then finally how to insert the graph into a webreport.


Step 1. Paste the data you want to plot into Excel, and then select it.



Step 2. Click the Chart Wizard icon. Then select Line as chart type.



Step 3. Click Next and fill in X axis and Y axis fields.



Step 4. Click Finish. You now have your chart. You need to save it as an image file so it can be inserted into your webreport. Select Save as Web Page, then choose a sensible place on your computer to save it.



Step 5. Now edit your webreport. Select Insert Local Object, and browse to the place on your computer that you saved to in step 4 above. 



Step 6. There should be a folder called [something]_files, and inside of this a file called image1.gif (or maybe just image1). This is the picture of your graph. Select this file, then save your webreport page as usual. You should now see the graph inserted in your webreport.
